Rejected by Writers of the Future

I received my rejection letter on Friday of last week and I’m posting now because I’ve been away on a camping vacation.

It was a form letter stating that my novella was not chosen for Quarter 2, nor did it make any level of the finals, or get honorable mention. Oh well. It would have been nice to win.

On a positive note, there was a hand written note at the bottom that said, “Submit Again Soon”. This could just be someone being nice but I’m going to assume that it means my writing isn’t horrible and they’d like to see me submit something else to them.

I might yet. We’ll see. Of course the only problem is that you can only submit something if you are a “new author”. To quote the contest rules:

The Contest is open only to those who have not had professionally published a novel or short novel, or more than one novelette, or more than three short stories, in any medium. Professional publication is deemed to be payment, and at least 5,000 copies, or 5,000 hits.”

Since I have had two short stories published this year, if I publish a third I won’t be eligible any more. But I suppose that isn’t a bad thing. It’ just means that I’ll achieve success the old fashioned way.

Hope your week was well. Now I must attend to my many mosquito bites.
