• Female Leads in Science Fiction Novels

In a discussion with book reviewer Shaun Duke on Twitter, he made an interesting comment.
He said that he couldn’t think of any lead female characters in Science Fiction books. When I tried to respond right away I realized all the books that were coming to my mind were more Fantasy or Speculative than true Science [...]

  • World Building with a Magic 8 Ball

So perhaps I wasn’t as ready to start a new novel as I thought, but I needed to do something while I wait to see what happens to my novel “Ice Debt” (see this post – update 7).
But I was stuck. I love building worlds but it wasn’t coming to me this time.
    I tried the [...]

  • Chinese Whisperings Promo

Just wanted to give you all a quick update on the the anthology that holds my 5th published short story. It was going to be released on December 1 2009, but due to unforeseen events and deadlines the release date has been pushed back to January 1 2009.
I’d rather the editors and owners do this, [...]

  • The 4 Year Plan

4 years ago, on August 23 2006, I started blogging. It was a way of telling the universe that I was committed to writing – for real this time.
I started on blogger, and you can read from the beginning up until August 2008 (when I moved to WordPress) @ http://dustandstrangerthings.blogspot.com/ – but only until the [...]

Lest We Forget

Tuesday, November 10, 2009    Comments

I Remember…
“Remembrance Day” is what November 11th is called in many Commonwealth Countries – such as Australia, Barbados, Bermuda, Canada, Ireland, South Africa and United Kingdom (as well as the allied country Ireland). “Veterans Day” also falls on this day in the United States, and Armistice Day is celebrated in France and New Zealand.
In Canada, [...]

Week One: NaNoWriMo

Sunday, November 8, 2009    Comments

NaNoWriMo is going great!
The daily goal all NaNoWriMo’ers try to meet is 1667 words per day. So far I’m doing pretty good at reaching that (so why can’t I do this during the other 11 months of the year?). I did mess up on Day 5 (I had a huge migraine) and on Day 7 [...]

Featured on FiledBy

I just got great news and had to share.
FiledBy (if you haven’t already hear of it) is a website that features authors and their books. They don’t sell the books, however they do provide a link to where you can.
I have been on FiledBy for a while. I wasn’t sure of it’s value but if [...]

NaNoWriMo: Supplemental

Sunday, November 1, 2009    Comments

It’s day 1 (9 hours into this event) and I’m still really excited about NaNoWriMo, so I thought I would share some more information about the book I’m writing this month.
Allow me to introduce my main characters:

Someone on twitter mentioned that Roman looks like Malcom Reynolds from FireFly. That wasn’t my intention. The Myrith culture [...]

NaNoWriMo 2009: Riot Girl

Friday, October 30, 2009    Comments

On Sunday, November 1st, I will be participating in NaNoWriMo for the very first time.
For those of you who have never heard of it, NaNoWriMo is an annual event that takes place from November 1 to November 30. Those of us crazy enough to sign up are challenged to write 50,000 words during those 30 [...]

I have two things to share with you today.
First, I did a podcast Interview with Mike Plested again only this time I’m featured as an author. I think it’s really cool. You can check it out here:  http://www.michellplested.com/irreverentmuse/get-published-episode-15-interview-with-tina-hunter/ (my interview starts at the 10:00 minute mark).
Also, since I’m being featured as an author I thought [...]

    Reviews and General Love!

      November 24, 2009
      A Great Collection of Horror,
This is a mixed collection of well written horror stories, some with hints of gore, some a smattering of science fiction, and still others contain bits of humor. What's truly fun about this collection is that not all of the authors have been published before, so it's giving new writers a chance showcase their works in an otherwise "hard to break in", horror market. Who knows, the next Stephen King may be lurking amongst these creepy pages.
